Residential Heating Repair FAQ’s

How often should my heating system be serviced?

We recommend servicing your heating system at least once a year to ensure efficiency, safety, and longevity.

The most common furnace repairs include:

  • Replacing the air filter
  • Cleaning the burners
  • Replacing the blower motor
  • Repairing the ignition system
  • Fixing the thermostat

Some of these can be completed by a homeowner with some basic knowledge of furnaces and heating systems. However, more complex repairs, such as replacing a faulty blower motor or repairing a damaged ignition system, should be performed by a trained heating and cooling technician.

Heat pumps usually produce air that is 85-92°F. This is plenty warm to heat your home to your desired 72°F.

But the air coming out of the vents can feel cold for a couple reasons:

  • Gas furnaces produce air that is 130-140°F range. So, 85-92°F feels cold to new heat pump owners.
  • Your body temperature is around 98.6°F (everyone’s body temperature is slightly different, but that’s the average). Since heat pumps produce air that is below that, it can feel cold to you.
The simple answer is that heat rises – so that even the warm air your downstairs system generates moves upstairs gradually. All that warm air tends to dry things out – from your leather furniture to your nose! There are some options that might help the flow of warm air in the house, and a humidifier will remedy the dryness problems associated with winter and heating.

Residential Air Conditioning Repair FAQ’s

What is the average cost to fix an air conditioner?

Most small AC repairs near Atlanta will fall somewhere within the $250 to $800 range. It can vary depending on the specific problem and the size of the unit. Older systems or systems with major component failures (Coils, compressors, etc.) can cost significantly more. If your system is out of warranty or has a major component failure, we recommend getting a quote for the repair and a quote for a new system. This way you can compare the cost of repairing the old system versus investing in a brand-new system.

No, a professionally installed HVAC system should not need additional refrigerant (R-22, 410A, etc.) as part of maintenance. HVAC systems are not designed to leak or need additional refrigerant. If your HVAC system is low on refrigerant there is a leak. Adding refrigerant to a system without repairing the leak is a temporary fix and is bad for the environment and your wallet. If your system is low on refrigerant, have a certified HVAC professional diagnose and repair the leak, before adding additional refrigerant.

If your AC unit is 10 – 15 years old, it is time to start thinking about replacing it. Here are some other things to consider when deciding if you should repair or replace your home AC:

  • You are paying for costly repairs multiple times.
  • Your system is not cooling your home efficiently.
  • Strange noises are coming from the unit.
  • Your energy bills are increasing without more usage.

Today’s units are much more energy efficient than older models, so you may see significant savings on your energy bill by upgrading to a newer unit.

Wondering if we can take care of your air conditioning repair? Our licensed heating and cooling technicians are qualified to work on any type of residential HVAC equipment, including:

  • Traditional residential air-conditioning units
  • Ductless mini-split systems
  • Air handlers
  • Heat Pumps

It does not matter if you have a brand-new AC unit or something that looks like it has been around longer than the house itself. We can gain access to your equipment, find the problem, and fix it.
